Modern History of Mathematics: Looking Ahead

Modern History of Mathematics: Looking Ahead

Monday 28 April 2025 (All day) to Friday 2 May 2025 (All day)
Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge and Online

This five-day conference is the closing workshop of the Modern History of Mathematics Programme at the Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge.

Speakers will reflect upon the themes of the preceding four months, to suggest possible avenues and directions of further research, and in particular suggest practical ways in which these might be taken forward.  There will also be opportunities for the presentation of research undertaken during the programme itself, together with ideas generated over the preceding weeks, and the discussion of new questions and problems.

Whereas the opening workshop gave the floor predominantly to established historians of mathematics, the closing workshop will place greater emphasis on the contributions of the early-career researchers who represent the future of the discipline.

The overarching goal of this closing workshop is to ensure that the projects and collaborations sparked in Cambridge extend beyond the end of this programme.
